Trump and duties, China could impose tariffs “devastating” for the Apple
With the administration Trump always more willing to apply the additional charges on imported goods from China, the chinese government has threatened the commercial actions of retaliation that could be “devastating” for Apple.
The Wall Street Journal reports that to be affected not only by the products that Apple is assembled in China, but also the materials the company needs to produce its devices.
Given that Apple assembles almost all of its products in China, from the smartwatch to iPhone, going to the AirPods, all the price list of the company may be subject to strong price increases. The chinese government wants to respond with a real retaliation, at the rates that Trump will impose on goods imported from China.
Such duties could be devastating for Apple, which would end up having to pay many more dollars to be able to produce its devices in China and to be able to buy the raw materials. Such costs may in fact result in a 5% of earnings in the least for Apple.
