The UFC announced his first comic book
From the title Tales of the UFC's Return to the Octagon, the comics will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the UFC. Limited copies were available at The Forum during the UFC 232: Jones vs. Gustaffson 2 on Saturday 29 December.
Tales of the UFC's Return to the Octagon was written by Dave Dwonch, who has previously written Endless Seven, Vamplets (with Gayle “My Little Pony” Middleton), Cyrus Perkins and the Haunted Taxi Cab, and the comic book series of the NFL Rush Zone. The plot presents drawings of Jason Federhenn (The Harcourt Legacy) and colors by Brad Simpson (Vengeance, Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers, as well as the Catalyst of Dark Horse).
“I am honored to partner with the UFC to their first comic and I am thrilled by the fact that this could also be the first comic of the fans,” said Dwonch in a press release. “We have really created something special here, and I can't wait for readers to find their new hero in the pages of Tales of the UFC!”
The story of this first issue begins in 2008, when Mike “The Takedown” Mercury is “sucked into a war against the crime syndicate intergalactic known as THE RING. Equipped with the armor of the alien hi-tech, Mike leaves his world behind, including daughter Maxine of 8 years, to save the universe. A decade later, THE RING has now set his eyes on the Ground, with Mike back to the house to continue the fight”.
