The tracking device Apple can use ARKit, and the functionality of “leashing”

At WWDC 2019, Apple has announced that it has offline search, code name Blue Avengers, as one of the new features of iOS 13 and macOS Catalina.

The feature allows users to find their devices even when lost devices are not connected to the Internet.

A background process called Search Party transmits intermittently and receives Bluetooth signals, specially designed, so that every online device in the vicinity that is running iOS 13 or macOS Catalina can transmit the position of the devices offline lost to their owners. The offline search works even if the device is idle, in which case the device enters a state of “trail of darkness” in order to transmit a Bluetooth signal. Apple uses public key cryptography to maintain secure and private location information of all.

In addition to the ability to find the devices themselves, it is said that Apple intends to compete with the Tile, and announce a small Bluetooth device that uses the same search technology offline of iOS devices 13 and Catalina. This is a small signalling device may be connected to personal objects such as keys, purses or wallets so that the owner can always find them.

An image of the “star” of ARKit discovery in the app Where it is, suggests the possibility of using augmented reality to find objects or items lost, similar to the Pixie Tracker.

In addition, according to the code strings found in iOS 13, Apple could apparently allow these devices to be “on leash” on an iOS device or watchOS so that the user may be alerted when a device is out of the reach of another. Tile offers similar functionality, that's called smart alerts and is only included with the monthly service premium Tile.

After the update to iOS 13 when it will be released in the fall, the search function is offline and will be enabled by default if they are active Where it is and Bluetooth.
