The Road to the Draft: Andrew Thomas
Age: 21 – Role: Offensive Tackle – College: Georgia
Class: Junior Height: 6'5" (1.96 m) – Weight: 320 lbs (145 kg)
The year 2020 promises to be a class that is very rich for those looking for an OL. Among the most interesting names there is certainly to Andrew Thomas from Georgia. The former recruit, 4-star from Atlanta started as a tackle on the right already from the season by a true freshman, the season ended with the defeat in the National Championship against Alabama, which has earned him a nomination to the freshman All-American. After the departure of Isaiah Wynn the direction of Boston, Thomas becomes the new left tackle of the Bulldogs, this change of position is not the weight, actually finishes the season being included in the First-Team All-SEC and First-Team All-American. In the past season in his year at Junior improves even coming plugged back in First-Team All-SEC and unanimous First-Team All-American.
The first thing that there is to say about the Andrew Thomas, who is “a guy with the head in place”, has a great work ethic, and an excellent student off the field. Since his arrival in Athens has improved every year. An exceptional run blocker that has made the fortune of various: Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Andre Swift. Also excellent in pass blocking, in fact, this year Jake Fromm was the QB than he had in average more time to throw in the Ncaa. Long arms and a perfect physique for a player who must protect the blind side of a QB, another thing not to be underestimated are the zero red flags off the field, and no serious accident until now.
Should slightly improve his footwork in pass protection, especially against the very fast Edge rusher in the NFL.
Coming from the SEC is the conference that most closely resembles the NFL, and with all the strong opponents he has faced in these years, I think Thomas is the best OL in this class. Could start as a left tackle since day 1, still has to work on his footwork but he still has great upside that could make him become one of the best LT in the league.
Compare Thomas with Ronnie Stanley of the Ravens, he's a great worker, who in these 4 years in the NFL has managed to improve and fill their gaps up to be considered a top 5 in the league.
The Arizona Cardinals would be spending the eighth pick to take Thomas, after the addition of Dandre Hopkins, the Cardinals need to improve their OL and give Kyler Murray more time to be able to fish the various WR.
The other perfect destination would be the Cleveland Browns to 10, after the addition of the RT Jake Conklin in free agency, the Browns must also find the player who protects the blind side of Baker Mayfield and Andrew Thomas would be the perfect player, the Browns would end up also Nick Chubb.
