The next Fiat 500 will be electric-only: the current will remain with heat engines
"Urban " Tesla". So Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer of FCA, has defined the future with the Fiat 500 electric. A model highly anticipated because it will for the first time the Italian brand in the world of the electric car, after the experiment Panda Elettra 1990 and the first generation of the Fiat 500e, the latter built in loss more for reasons of "political" that a real conviction of the company.
Today, at a distance of 6 years from the 500e, everything has changed: last June, Sergio Marchionne (who died then at the end of July) had opened to a massive plan of electrification of the range, a plan brought forward today by the successor Mike Manley. The first fruits of this new strategy are seen at the Geneva motor show, where the FCA has presented not only with the concept and the Fiat one hundred and Twenty (prototype with a battery of modular construction that anticipates the future Panda) and the Alfa Romeo Tonal concept SUV plug-in hybrid), but also the production versions of the Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Compass, with a hybrid powertrain plug-in.
Interviewed by AutoExpress at the Geneva motor show, Francois has officially announced that the upcoming Fiat 500 electric (confirmed in the past few months with production at Mirafiori) will be unveiled in a world preview on the occasion of the edition 2020 of the festival in switzerland. Under the hood we will find a platform all new (currently in development phase) designed to accommodate only an electric powertrain. Those who want to buy a 500 with a combustion engine will still be available to the current generation (on the market since 2007), which according to reports will remain on sale again for a bit (probably with a further restyling). For the rest, 2018 (the 11th year of selling the model) was the best ever for the small city car Italian, with 194.000 copies delivered in Europe.The top of the range 2018 the most complete on the market?
