The market share of the iPhone, with a decrease of 17% in Europe

Apple has shipped 1.3 million iPhone cheaper in Europe in the second quarter, revealed the analysis of the smartphone market, a decline of 17% year on year, while rivals Xiaomi and Samsung are seeing considerable growth in shipments in the same period.

For the second quarter of 2019, the data of Canalys claim that Apple has shipped 6.4 million iPhone, a decrease of 17% compared with 7.7 million shipments recorded in the same quarter of 2018. For the market in general, Apple has managed to remain in third place in terms of volume of shipments, but has a market share of 14.1% compared to 17% last year.

The decline in the market share of Apple in this last report is echoed in another analysis of the end of July, which claimed that Apple has shipped 36.4 million iphones globally in the second quarter, down from 41.3 million in 2018. Overall, the industry fell 1.2% in terms of shipments of 360 million units.

In the report of Canalys, the european shipments for the industry are equal to 45.1 million units in the quarter, a decrease of about 100,000 compared to eur 45.2 recorded in the previous quarter, indicating that the market is relatively stable compared to the rest of the world.

The details of the market share of Apple may not necessarily be a figure useful to examine in this case, Canalys is monitoring all smartphone sales, regardless of price. This is actually the premium smartphone of Apple in comparison with models the low-cost, making it a comparison is relatively unjust, and unlike a comparison of the revenue.

The report of Canalys does not explain what happened to the Apple market, but instead takes the time to talk about the Android market, including how there is a “lack of brand loyalty among smartphone users Android low-end and medium“. Most of the discussion is about Samsung, its mammoth market share growth in the quarter and the amount of shipments that are most high over the last five years.

For the competition, Samsung is in first place with 18.3 million shipments, an annual growth of 20% and a market share that grew from 33.9 percent for the second quarter of 2018 to 40.6% in the second quarter of 2019.

Always in front of Apple there is the already mentioned Huawei, which has seen shipments fall 16% to € 8.5 million and the market share has increased from 22,4% to 18.8%. Behind Apple there is Xiaomi, which has seen an annual growth of 48% to reach 4.3 million units shipped, increasing its market share from 6.5% to 9.6%.

Apple appears in the list of the top five positions for smartphone shipments in the quarter, with the iPhone XR to fifth place with 1.8 million units. Samsung occupies the first, second and fourth place with Galaxy A50 (3.2 million), Galaxy A40 (2.2 million) and Galaxy A20e (1.9 million), while the Redmi Note 7 of Xiaomi takes third place with 2.0 million units.

In the quarterly results the most recent, Apple reported a decline of annual global revenues of the iPhone, going from $ 29,9 26 billion. Because of Apple's position on shipments of units not reported, it is not clear whether the price was due to the lower number of units shipped or the variation of the average selling price.
