Steven S. DeKnight, a producer of Smallville, showrunner of the first season of Daredevil for Netflix and director of Pacific Rim: The Revolt, intervened on Twitter to answer a fan who asked him if he was interested in directing the sequel of The Man of Steel. The director responded with the iconic phrase of Superman: “up, Up and away!”

The news has made the rounds of the web and started the usual speculation on its actual usage as a director of the movie. DeKnight has again chimed in on Twitter to explain: “Good God. All I said was: ‘up, Up and away’ in response to those who asked me if I was interested in directing The Man of Steel 2. I'd rather see Zack Snyder direct the sequel. I love his work.”

Good lord. All I said was “Up, Up and away” in response to being asked if I'd be interested in directing MOS2. My preference would be to see @ZackSnyder helm the sequel. Love his work. https://t.co/I3U8hEpYVr

Snyder directed The Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. However, he had to leave the production of the latter due to a bereavement in the family. The film has been completed by Joss Whedon, the director of the two Avengers for Marvel and the upcoming Batgirl for DC-Warner, and has been subject to substantial changes. It was even replaced the composer for the soundtrack. It was initiated by a petition from the fans to be able to see the Director's Cut of Snyder, but is unlikely to see the light.

The Man of Steel 2 is a priority for Warner Bros.. In the last few months has been done in the name of Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: first class, Kick-Ass, Kingsman – Secret Service) for the director, but is currently at work on the Kingsman 3. In 2008, Vaughn and comic book creator Mark Millar, his frequent collaborator, had written a film trilogy of Superman that has not had the further development.
