A few hours ago on the it was announced the cancellation of the international exhibition of Bologna Children's Book Fair. After that a few weeks ago, was issued the announcement of the postponement of the dates of the fair, originally set from march 30 to April 2, 4-7 may 2020. Today was the date the official communication of the cancellation due to emergency COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Here below we report the official press release:

“With great regret, BolognaFiere has had to take the grave decision to cancel the 57th edition of the Bologna Children's Book Fair – BCBF. Consequently, is also waived the related event, the Bologna Licensing Trade Fair.

Unfortunately, the spread of the epidemic of the Coronavirus to the national and international level did not allow for any optimistic perspective on the progress of the Exhibition, even on dates 4-7 may recently announced. It was therefore decided not to wait any longer, so as to allow all the exhibitors and all the professionals expected – publishers, agents, artists, authors, illustrators, digital creator, licensor, licensee, etc., – re-scheduling of their best work.

Bologna will still be present: the team BCBF is working to re-create online the atmosphere, and the opportunity of business and networking that have always made for the Bologna Children's Book Fair and the “sister” Bologna Licensing Trade Fair is a unique event in the world, the most important international event of the sector, as well as a cultural hub and forefront of the new trends of the market, not only of books but of all of the content for children. “We are confronted these days with an emergency, " declares Antonio Bruzzone, managing Director of BolognaFiere – that affects not only our Country but, unfortunately, has an impact on an international scale. The need to contain the spread of the Coronavirus has made it necessary to apply strong restrictions to the movement between Country and Country, affecting, in a significant way, on the business of entrepreneurship as a whole.

The fair trade System, which lives of opportunities of meeting and networking, was faced with a new situation with the goal of being, now more than ever, to support businesses to ensure the best circumstances for the repositioning of the individual initiatives that have had to deal with this situation. For the Bologna Children's Book Fair – continues Bruzzone – where 90% of the exhibitors come from abroad, it was impossible to propose an event to which our interlocutors would not be able to participate with the necessary tranquillity and the climate of friendship and cooperation that characterizes this large international community that every year he finds himself in Bologna.

It has not been easy to make the decision to postpone the 2021 event, we did it with the awareness of having to make an important contribution to allow the overcoming of this situation. As often happens, from the comparison with the new scenarios are born new ideas, and that is what is happening also to the Bologna Children's Book Fair that will not only postpone the event in 2021, but is already working on a series of new projects and initiatives to keep in the link to this great international community that we thank for the trust that has allowed us to become the reference event in the world.

Finally, the announcement well in advance of this decision stems from the awareness of how important it is to be programmed, in every detail, their presence at a trade fair event and, at the same time, create the conditions to reschedule its work in relation to the scenarios that the international situation imposes on us”.

The Bologna Children's Book Fair gives appointment, from 12 to 15 April 2021.
