Recently interviewed by Nerdist, the director of the Batman Matt Reeves has spoken of his approach to the film, his vision of the character and the love for some of the previous films, such as Batman Returns to Tim Burton or The Dark Knight to Nolan, revealing also how The new Batman will not be a story about the origins of the character.

“I reflected on the fact that there had already been so many fantastic movies about Batman and I did not want my simply added to the list,” explains the director, “Some have been fantastic because they have left their mark: what did Nolan has been incredible, Tim Burton has made something truly original.

I Love Batman Returns. Michelle Pfeiffer was fantastic, I love it very much. It is truly amazing, I think it is beautiful and just. The scene of the Penguin in the sewers is something that leaves you speechless, the great thing about Tim Burton is his particular interpretation of the fantastic and very, very personal.

The Dark Knight is an incredible film, I believe that the performance of Heath Ledger is indelible now in the history, as the battle with the same Bruce. The thing that remains, however, of this film is, thinking of the Joker, that desire of nothing, that terrifying nihilism that is part of human nature, deeply analyzed.

What I would like to do is to make a Batman not yet formed, make it current, analyze a guy destroyed that is doing every thing to overcome his childhood trauma.

What I want to do is not tell an origin story, but a story that explains the birth of the Batman, from what it was formed. There is a guy that is in great part in difficulties, is trying to win a fight with himself, but this does not mean that you understand it thoroughly.

It is all based on the dark part of Me and of what really guides us in life, how you can take advantage of what you don't understand; there is a lot of psychology, emotion, the elements that will be explored along with the corruption that is rampant in Gotham.

I think it's all very current, there is a time when you can't talk about corruption without being present, but, today, a history of the genre seems to be more current than ever.”

As we know, the state of world emergency caused by the spread of the Coronavirus has blocked a large part of the film industry and, at the time, filming on set in london of The Batman are suspended.

“The production of The Batman, Warner Bros Pictures, will be suspended for two weeks starting today. The study will continue to closely monitor the situation,” the announcement Warner Bros. reported by Deadline.

Difficult to predict when actually Robert Pattinson and the rest of the cast will return on the set, in view of the health emergency that is currently in place. The shooting of the film were taking place in London, which began on 20 January.

In the cast are Robert Pattinson (Batman), Paul Dano (the Riddler), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone), Zoe Kravitz ("Selina Kyle/ Catwoman), Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Andy Serkis (Alfred), Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), Peter Sarsgaard and Jayme Lawson.

The release of the Batman is currently scheduled for June 25, 2021 hoping that, in fact, this unfortunate suspension does not delay the exit.
