The App Store generates twice the revenue compared to Google Play

The App Store continues to exceed Google Play in terms of revenue, in spite of the downloads to be much lower. The new data were published by Sensor Tower.

In the first six months of 2018, the App Store has generated 22.6 billion dollars in gross sales globally, while the Google Play has stopped to 11.8 billion. This means that iOS users have spent twice as compared to Android users.

This is not a novelty, given that the Apple store generated more revenue of its counterpart Android almost always. The reasons are the usual: Android users are less inclined to spend money to buy the app or add-on content, in addition to the fact that there are other app stores on Android, given that it is possible to make purchases from the Amazon Appstore, or Samsung Store (but the numbers of these two stores are still very low). Also, the Google Play store is not available in China, while the Apple App Store.

The revenue are, however, increased by almost 30% for both the store compared to the same period a year ago.

Great part of the merit is of the apps that require subscriptions, such as Netflix, Spotify, and Pandora, and HBO Now. Also Tinder and Tencent Video are among the apps that have generated more revenue in the first six months of 2018. Next to these apps, costs more always came from the games and additional content.

Downloads of the app are increased in the first half of the year. In this case, is Google Play, to win the challenge with the App Stores with 36 billion downloads, compared with 15 billion.
