The original novel was written by André Aciman, and follows seventeen-year-old Elio (Timothée Chalamet) and his love story swirling with the 24-year-old Oliver (Armie Hammer). The film is set in in Italy in 1983.
The original novel was released in Japan on Friday, with covers and images created by Kotobuki. The film will be released in theaters in Japan on April 27 with a voice-over that sees Kenjiro Tsuda in the role of Oliver and Miyu Irino in the role of Helium.
The film won the oscar as the best original screenplay to 90° Academy Award, and has also had a nomination as best film, best actor for the performance of Chalamet, and best original song.
Kotobuki has previously written the supernatural yaoi manga Love Pistols (Sex Pistols), which was adapted into an OVA of two episodes in 2010.
