Suspiria: Dario Argento has not enjoyed the remake
The new version of the classic horror film the Italian arrived in Italy on 1 January (the review here), with a cast that includes among others, Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson.
The plot of Suspiria follows a young american dancer Susie as she begins her training at the prestigious dance Academy Markos Tanz in Berlin. From the moment you arrive, however, it becomes quickly evident that things are not just those that seem to be at the Academy and, in a short time, Susie is a deal with freak accidents. While the plot is revealed, the truth about the academy of dance of Markos Tanz becomes clear, with great horror of Susie.
The film was synonymous with Dario Argento for decades, and fans of horror around the world have been praised by time, everything from the soundtrack for an intense and incisive with her powerful and engaging atmosphere.
When the remake was announced, many fans wondered not only what it would have been nice, but also what she thought of Silver. Now, thanks to The Film Stage, we know the truth and it does not appear that Silver was a big fan of the film. He said the famous Italian film director: “I wasn't wowed, has betrayed the spirit of the original film: there is no fear, there is no music. The movie doesn't satisfied me so much.”
Silver then went on to say that the remake was “a movie fine, how to Guadagnino, who is a good person”. Then, he added, “Guadagnino creates beautiful tables, beautiful curtains, beautiful dishes, everything is beautiful...”
Last year, Guadagnino, known for his movie, Oscar award 2015 Call me with your name, had spoken of his interactions with Silver with regard to the remake of Suspiria. At that time, to Earn had passed on the encouragement that Silver had given him, saying: “I'm a friend of Dario and I have had the privilege of knowing him for a long time. We had dinner and he said to me: “you don't need any blessing. You just need to go make your movie”. He was very generous. He has seen the film, but it's not up to me to convey his reaction. I can only tell you that after seeing it he called me, and it was a good call.”
The last words of Silver, can hardly be said to be positive, but the two friends probably have had a longer conversation than that which the public is aware of.
With regard to the remake of Suspiria, in itself, the final result has divided critics and fans, bringing with it accolades and failures. One thing about the whole situation is certain, however: many of the most appreciated films today are born in similar circumstances, with extremely contradictory opinions that have them isolated for years. With time, maybe the remake of Suspiria by Luca Guadagnino will appeal more unanimous.
