Shawn Levy, executive producer of Stranger Things, was interviewed by ComicBook.com and answered about the possibility of the series becoming a franchise, and that it can then spread between the prequel, sequel, spin-off and whatever: “The notion of a franchise did not exist for Netflix before Stranger Things. We have assisted in our growth as we move into merchandising, partnerships and promotion. Do not talk about the series in terms of the franchise. We want to certainly do the other seasons. Apart from this, Stranger Things has become one of the most important brands of Netflix. They would like to see us tell these stories in any way, and for the most years possible.”

The third season of the Stranger Things will consist of eight episodes. The filming will start next April and will be available on Netflix in 2019.
