Star Wars: The Last Jedi – we will See a new lightsaber?
There is a lot of news on Star Wars: The last Jedi, new characters, new creatures, planets and spaceships.
And now it turns out that we could be amazed also by the appearance of a new laser sword!
The director Ryan Johnson has recently said, in an interview with Parade, that the last of The Jedi will be the baptism for a color laser sword that we never seen.
With a few exceptions, most of the swords laser sight in Star Wars have always been blue or red.
The Sith and Kylo Ren have always had the lightsaber in red, while the Jedi showed off blades blue or green, with the exclusion of the blade purple Mace Windu.
What is not yet clear of this small statement, that is if Johnson has no intention of using a only uncolore that we have not yet seen in the movies, or if the director has introduced a lightsaber completely new.
In the Star Wars Universe, between the Legend and the Canon, we have seen almost all the possible colors for a lightsaber, but when talking about a movie that fits into the Canon we have to stick to this narrative context, and to consider new lightsaber featured in the stories of LEgend, and therefore not “recognized”.
In the Canon of Star Wars, we've already seen of the colors for the lightsabers that have never appeared in films, such as those shown in the Clone Wars or the sword, the white of Asoka Tano in Star Wars Rebels.
If, instead, broadening the discussion to other aspects of the Star Wars universe, let us not forget that in the setting of The Old Republic video games of BioWare, we have seen the Jedi Sentinels use lightsabers by the blade yellow, and then if Ryan Johnson refers to a color that never appeared in the film, the yellow may be a rather plausible.
From what we know of Star Wars: The last Jedi, Luke and Rey are on a planet in which were a temple of Jedi.
Certainly not will be more of these Jedi knights, but inside the ruins of this temple may have been preserved ancient lightsabers, remnants of a bygone era and, so far, unknown.
If you want to do a speech on a color laser sword that we never seen in the Star War, and remains within the Canon, the discourse narrows.
If this new colour is not dependent on Luke and Rey, we can assume that it is then linked to the Supreme Leader Snoke, the only other character known at the time that could hold a lightsaber and that has not yet performed one.
In this case, we might expect a tinge of the classic red of the Sith, seen that Snoke is not a Sith, maybe a purple and a variation of orange.
In short, Ryan Johnson has given us a new question on which to speculate until the 13th of December, when we'll also have this sitting in the cinema to enjoy the much-anticipated Episode VIII.
