Star Trek: Picard – revealed when it will be set in the series
The new series of Star Trek will return to Patrick Stewart in the role of Jean-Luc Picard: during The Graham Norton Show, the actor has revealed exactly when the series is set.
“The series will see Picard exactly 19 years after his last appearance in” revealing, therefore, as the series CBS All Access will take place in 2389, considering the last episode of The Next Generation, set in 2370.
Interviewed during the promotion of his new film, The boy who will become king, Stewart was asked if it is possible that the series might also lead to a future film.
“Oh lord, are we perhaps ready to do three seasons of the series...if there ever will be a movie, it's still really early to talk about it. The same series will be like a film, ten-hour” the words of Stewart, who then goes on to talk about the plot “The story is fantastic, and there are also some references to current situations...I can't say more. We are not in the present, but is no longer the same world where was Picard when we saw him the last time.”
Previously, the co-creator and showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery, Alex Kurtzman, revealed to the magazine Entertainment Weekly the first details about the series.
“It will have a rhythm very different from Discovery, which proceeds a strong c”ome a bullet, while the series of Picard will be more contemplative. It will be a balance between the speed and narrative of Discovery and what was The Next Generation, with the all that is to be merged at the end into the rhythm of the series. Without revealing too much about the series, it will be a long journey that will bring answers to the many questions that fans have about Picard. It will be more rooted in the real world, if I may say so” the words of Kurtzman, which concludes by revealing how the episodes are currently from the turn are 8.
The series would enter production in April, with filming taking place in California: according to the schedule, CBS is hoping to televise the premiere already at the end of 2019.
This is the speech of Stewart to announce his return in the shoes of the character, during the convention, Star Trek Las Vegas this summer:
“I will always be very proud to have been part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, when we ended the last film in the spring of 2002, I really felt that my time with Star Trek was over, that he had closed a cycle.
It is therefore, for me, an unexpected and pleasant surprise to find myself re-energized and reinvigorated to return to interpret Jean-Luc Picard, and to explore new facets, trying to give it a new life, when I thought instead that this was not possible. In recent years, it has been gratifying to hear many stories about how The Next Generation has brought comfort to the people and given confidence in the difficult moments of life, or as in the example of Jean-Luc has inspired many to follow in his footsteps, to pursue their interest in science, to explore and to be true leaders.
I feel that I'm ready to go with him for the same reasons, to search for and re-experience that light and comforting and the reformer who could shine in these times in most of the times very dark. I can't wait to work with all the fantastic creative team in the attempt to realize an innovative story, unexpected, and relevant to the tradition. Picard may have been changed by their experiences and may not play more the role of the captain. It will be something different but with the same passion as always.”
Waiting to see the series on the Picard, the fans of Star Trek can “console himself” with the second season of Discovery, scheduled for January 2019.
