Born in Kyoto, Japan, Stan Sakai has grown to the islands of Hawaii, but now lives in California with his family. A Fine Arts graduate from the University of Hawaii, he furthered his studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

USAGI YOJIMBO, the most famous creation of Stan appears for the first time in comics in 1984. Since then, Usagi has been shown on television (the“host” of the “Ninja Turtles”), has been transformed into a toy, reproduced on T-shirts and various accessories, in addition to that published in several collections of the comics. In 1991, Stan created Space Usagi, a series of futuristic setting on the adventures of a descendant of Usagi.

He has won several awards for his work lettere: for the “Groo” by Sergio Aragonés, the strips of the Sunday edition of “Spider-Man” and, of course, for “Usagi Yojimbo”. He has also received the Parents’ Choice Award, one of the Inkpot Award, an American Library Association Award, two Harvey Award, four Spanish Haxtur Award, various an Eisner Award, and most recently, an Inkwell Award. In 2003 he won the prestigious National Cartoonists Society Award in the Comic Book Division, and in 2011 was awarded the CULTURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD from the Japanese American National Museum.

Stan Sakai will be the guest at Lucca Comics & Games, in collaboration with RENOIR.
