Spotify and Netflix are dominating the revenue on the App Store
Sensor Tower has published a year-end report on the revenue of the applications (not games) on the App Store, with results significantly better compared to 2015, mainly thanks to apps such as Spotify, Netflix, and Pandora.
Sensor Tower is the confirmation that the 2016 has marked out for Apple in the year with higher revenues in absolute on the App Store, even taking into account only the app and not the games. The net revenues of the app sun rose from 3.4 billion dollars of 2015, to the 5.4 billion by 2016.
Excluding the games, Spotify was the app that did record more revenue on the App Store worldwide in 2016. Even taking into account the revenues from the App Store and Google Play, and Spotify is confirmed in the first place.
Returning to the only App Store after Spotify are Netflix, Online, Pandora, and HBO Now:
Sensor Tower goes on to note that, in a year, Spotify has seen the greatest revenue, but in the last 3 months of 2016 revenue increased were those of Netflix, 2017 may therefore exceed the service of music streaming, in terms of profitability on the App Store.
In terms of mere the download, the leaderboard is dominated by Facebook with the app Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp in the first three positions.
