Spider-Man: Tom Holland behind the new agreement, Marvel/Sony
A guest at Jimmy Kimmel Live, the CEO of Disney Bob Iger has confirmed what was reported earlier by The Hollywood Reporter about the importance of Tom Holland in the new negotiations between Marvel Studios and Sony about the future of Spider-Man.
“It was almost miraculous. His speech at the D23 has clearly demonstrated how much the fans want to still see him as Spider-Man, in films produced by the team of Marvel Studios,” says Iger, “After the event, Tom has contacted my staff, asking for my number, to be able to speak with me. Not that I cried on the phone, but it has been shown, however, as we take to the future of the character and how much of it he had care of, sharing with him these feelings, pushed even further by his feelings, I made a few calls to the Disney Studios and then I contacted Sony, saying that we had to find an agreement both for Tom and for all the fans. And so it was...often when two companies deal with, you forget that issues in dance have important consequences on third persons”.
The new agreement between Marvel and Sony plans two other films for Spider-Man, so I conclude consistently his saga and exit in the same way by the MCU. Feige will take to the new creative control for Spider-Man 3, with Disney that will allocate 25% of the budget. The agreement also gives the right to the Disney, which already owns 100% of the rights to the merchandising of Spider-Man, to 25% of net receipts when Spider-Man 3 will arrive in theaters on July 16, 2021.
