Some developers are facing “several problems” with Catalyst

It's more work for an app for the iPad bear a strong resemblance indeed to the native apps for Mac, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that some developers have encountered “various problems” with Catalyst.

For example, the report states that James Thomson has had to work more than he bargained for on his popular calculator app PCalc for the iPad, before that it worked fine on the Mac. Thomson said that initially the version for Mac “it seemed like an app for the iPad floating on a screen Mac greatest“, then he had to redesign a large part of the user interface.

Thomson added that some older Macs have trouble managing the app-based Catalyst using the framework of 3D graphics to a high level, Apple's SceneKit.

Lukas Burgstaller, developer of the RSS reader Fiery Feeds for iPad, has also “met with all kinds of problems” in the attempt to adapt the app for iPad to the Mac interface by using the Catalyst, but the report does not mention the specific problems that he faced.

With regard to the consumer, the report finds that Catalyst brings users to pay twice for the same app on iOS and macOS.

“As a user, I don't want to pay again just to have the same app,” said the well-known developer Steven Troughton-Smith to Bloomberg. “As a developer, i don't want my users having to make this decision.”

Troughton-Smith has touched on some of the problems that developers are facing with Catalyst, observing that the Mac versions of some apps can hide the mouse cursor during the playback of the video or might have problems with the video recording, scrolling with two fingers or the use of the keyboard and full-screen mode in video games.

The report adds that two upcoming app Catalyst which had been submitted on the Web site of Apple from June have been removed this week, including the app for the DC comic strips Universe and the racing game Asphalt 9. It is not clear if the app for the Mac are non-scheduled or delayed, or if any of the problems of Catalyst reported to be a factor.
