Sky: number of subscribers is stable and the Sky Q in Italy before Christmas

Sky PLC (which controls all of the european branches) has released the financial data in the quarter that ended on September 30, 2017. Of the subsidiaries in United Kingdom and Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy, have generated revenue for 3,296 billion pounds, about € 3.7 billion. Compared to the same quarter of 2016 has recorded an increase equal to 5%. The EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) or gross operating margin amounted to 582 million pounds, about 644 million euros. Last year the figure stood at 524 million pounds then 11% less.

The data relating to Italy alone reported a higher income of 2% year-on-year: 605 million pounds (670 million euros) against the previous 591 million. The gross operating margin grew by 8%, going from 99 to 107 million pounds (118 million euros). The channels that belong to the genre "Entertainment" have achieved excellent results: the increase in the number of viewers is 68%. To arouse public interest were especially "The Throne of Swords" and "the X Factor". Also the sport has obtained a positive trend (+5%) thanks to the Formula 1 and MotoGP.

Sky Go Plus is now used by 618.000 subscribers, with 218.000 new users in the last quarter. Sky has also announced officially the launch of the Sky Q in Italy. The new decoder and its associated services will be available before Christmas (we speak of this quarter, so that by the end of December), in advance with respect to Germany and Austria, where it will arrive in the first half of 2018.
