Samsung and Huawei make peace on patents in China
Samsung and Huawei have reached an agreement in China on the many (over 40!) the causes for the violation of patents open in these years. About three months ago they did the same in the United States. Of course, the precise details have not been disclosed, but the newspaper reported that, in broad lines, the two giants have signed an agreement for the reciprocal licensing of the so-called patents standard-essential, i.e. those which are essential to implementing a standard, all over the world.
The main elements of discord were technologies related to 4G and software features for smartphones. At this point we can say that between the two asian giants, there is a substantial peace - only in legal terms, of course, while the competition remains very fierce, especially on the smartphone industry. Since the start of the complaints of each other, Samsung was one of the protagonists in China, and Huawei was basically marginal; today, the market share of chinese of Samsung is less than 1%, while Huawei seems unstoppable in the race to become the manufacturer number one (for volumes) in the world.
The dynamics of the "quarrel and then make peace" is in a certain sense diffused among the giants of the industry. We think of the recent conclusion of the colossal struggle between Apple and Qualcomm, for example, or even more emblematic between Apple and Samsung. The reasons are many, among these we can mention the large sums of money paid in legal expenses and lost time in court. The only real Notes.?
