Robopocalypse and 6 Underground will be the next film by Michael Bay
Variety announces that Michael Bay (Armageddon, Bad Boys, Transformers) will direct Robopocalypse, the transposition of the science-fiction novel by Daniel H. Wilson, released in 2011, and a mysterious action film called 6 Underground.
In 2013, Steven Spielberg has tried to bring to the big screen Robopocalypse, with a cast that included Anne Hathaway, Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw, but the project was put on hold just before it went into production due to script and budget. Drew Goddard, director of That house in the woods and showrunner of the first season of Daredevil, wrote the previous draft of the screenplay. Spielberg remains as a producer and has already worked with Bay in the saga of the Transformers.
Robopocalypse tells the story of a future society in which robots, common household appliances, turn to the human under the guidance of an artificial intelligence. Despite the similarities with the Terminator and I, robot, the story has the sense of realism that characterizes the novels of Wilson.
6 Underground is written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool 1 and 2, Zombieland). The film should enter production next summer and go out in the summer of 2019. It will be produced by Skydance with Reese and Wernick as executive producers. The two have already teamed up with Skydance to the sci-fi Life.
