For the past 6 years in the city of Malnate we are engaged in the implementation of the project ‘Malnate – Child-friendly City’ in the belief that the child could really represent the ideal figure in the thinking of the city. A child-friendly city is, in fact, a better city for all. The three pillars of the City of the Children are participatory design, through which the children are engaged concretely in the design of the spaces and of the initiatives of the city, the Children's Council, real decision-making in the city of Malnate and the project linked to the autonomy of the movement ‘let's Go to school alone’. I get about 200 letters a year from children – explains the first citizen – to The Municipality listens to them, develop their projects, support them. Working with children means thinking about the good of the whole city. In short, " concludes the mayor's Smart – we'll work on a new goal, so challenging and exciting: to give children the right to leisure and to imagine and to fantasise, in total freedom”.
