Pokémon Detective Pikachu: emotions live-action
While the public continues to be deeply moved by Avengers: Endgame, is preparing to debut in the cinemas a film “simple”, in the meaning of the most genuine and positive of the term, intent to start a “revolution” – even if not armed, because the fidelity to the original world is one of the horses of battle of this film is - inevitably the bearer of a new way of living in the world of Pokemon.
Pokemon Detective Pikachu is not only a story of bonds between humans and between Pokémon and human, all the issues are appreciated now more than twenty years when it comes to Pikachu & Co is a real evolution in our way of thinking, even visually, the end of the pocket is loved by both children and adults. Never before had anyone dared to try to bring to the big screen in a live-action dedicated to Pokémon, and, if we are honest, the reasons are also understandable: with a franchise so beloved, the risk of a flop is always around the corner, and are no more risks than benefits. This live-action, already from the beginning, seems not to agree to a middle way in the judgment: or a total disappointment, or something epic to send literally out of the head. Rob Letterman and the entire production is successful, however to achieve something that goes beyond any single judgment, something is inevitably destined to write history and to open a large parenthesis in the long and glorious history of the franchise in japan, through a unique but essential ingredient: the simplicity, which argues in favor of the opinion, certainly towards the second hypothesis.
If simple is not the technical implementation – nothing short of phenomenal and creative in representing the Pokemon in the flesh – it is the general tone, worthy of the classic stories to which we have accustomed even the many feature-length films of animation. The Pokémon world is not made up of superheroes, or much less so, in the end, coaches from the award-winning: the true heart of this world has always been, and always will be, the joy of being able to share their lives with creatures capable of giving a love that goes beyond any attack or evolution. And this is the element of the overbearing be seen in the live-action, with a new story – connected, however, as the more observant will note, to the historic feature-length animated – and a new setting, yes, but with the typical richness of the Pokémon world, emphasized by pleasant Easter Eggs (among the most beloved, perhaps, those relating to Squirtle) scattered throughout the film.
For this, for having brought, in a natural way the spirit of the world Pokemon on the big screen, not having the wrong never almost a shot – the only element that is questionable, at least in part, is the difference in the reproduction of the verses of some Pokemon of the film, to be justifiable, however, with the different narrative context, and certainly no influence in altering the final judgment – Rob Letterman and all the production team deserve a round of applause special. In a context where the market will create a “poetic” construction, where it is the fashion to direct the modus operandi, it was decided to work in close contact with The Pokemon Company to capture the true essence of a brand, which, we remind, once again, is loved relentlessly for more than twenty years. And then, if the choice will prove to be fruitful and profitable, so much the better: on the other hand, with a world like that of Pokemon, there was no other way but to show, in a way that is visual, innovative, the bond of love which binds one indissolubly human and Pokemon opening the doors to a new future and, finally, emotions live-action.
