PC market, political tensions, and scarcity of the CPU responsible for the decline | Q4 2018
The PC sales in the fourth quarter of 2018, they recorded a new contraction, highlighting once again the difficulties of a whole industry that suffers from the time the conditions of a saturated market characterized by trade wars more frequent, the USA vs. China on all of them.
This is what emerges from the report published by Gartner and IDC on the field for the last three months of the year just concluded: although the sources are different, the data - and results - match, and are on the lines detected in the preceding quarter. We speak of a or 4.3% for Gartner and by 3.7% for the IDC, which correspond to a little more than 68 million units shipped worldwide (68.6 million for the first, 68.1 million for the second). In 2018 were shipped 259,4 million PCS, 1.3% less than in the previous year (data Gartner). And IDC stresses as the result of the Q4 2018 represents the most important decline on an annual basis from the third quarter of 2016.
Compared to Q3 there is a slight increase (between July and September were 67 million PCS shipped), but the main concern is the contraction on an annual basis that has struck you in particular HP and Apple. Both, in fact, show the minus sign, with a -4,4% (Gartner) / -3,2% (IDC) for the first and 3.8% (Gartner, IDC) for the Cupertino company. Net also the decline of Acer: -18,1% (Gartner) / -8,5% (IDC).
