To celebrate the 21st anniversary of the serialization of ONE PIECE, the manga is shonen written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda, Shueisha has thought about a collaboration between editorial and the manga and one of the newspapers in japanese the most celebrated and “elderly” in the world, or Yomiuri Shimbun. The number of the historical review was published yesterday, 24 July 2018, and its interior is spread to a previously unpublished interview with the mangaka of japan.
Interviewed by Yayoi Kawamoto, among the other points of argument, Eiichirō Oda has had the opportunity to examine what evidence for the character of Monkey D. Luffy and he also explained what is behind the meaning of “King of Pirates”, which is the final goal of the protagonist. Here's what she revealed to the author when he was asked what is for him the existence of Luffy:
Luffy is my child perfect. I would like all children to be like him. Luffy says of the phrases, motivating from time to time and I would like it to remain as a kid forever. There are parts of him that are still shrouded in mystery, even I still don't know them all and it would be a problem if it were not so. If I could understand everything, I would not have any utility for the readers.
Subsequently, the reporter Kawamoto has placed the focus on the dream of Luffy become King of the Pirates. Asking Oda what does it mean basically this ambition, here's what he said to the author:
From the one hand, Luffy believes that the Pirate King is the one who can dominate all over the world freely. On the other hand, instead, Luffy acts in favour of the other. He believes that it is great help to the people in front of him without a gain. If you can get better with people, he feels happy with himself. And, as a result, people that helps then reciprocate the favor. I believe that this spirit of the samurai, or possess a heart of chivalry that fights for the good of others, should be handed down to future generations.
