So, like last year, in addition to the preview of the teams in the NFL we also offer those of the major conference NCAA. The sixth episode dedicated to, the SEC and more specifically to the East Division of the Conference.
For every College in the SEC – East Division, we indicate the ranking of the preseason (Athlon Sports), Head Coach, record of the year 2018, the most interesting matches, strengths and weaknesses, analysis of attack, defense, and the best prospects.
Preseason ranking: 3
Head Coach: Kirby Smart (4th year, 32-10)
Record 2018: 11-3
Match not to be missed: Notre Dame (21 sept.), Florida (2 nov.), at Auburn (16 nov.), Texas A&M (23 nov.)
Strengths: The Bulldogs are coming from a positive season even if it ended negatively, with the exclusion from the playoffs, and the defeat in the Sugar Bowl against the Longhorns. But after the first three seasons with Kirby Smart as HC, we can put Georgia in the elite of college football. These Bulldogs come to the caselli starting with one of the best QB Jake Fromm and the best OL in the nation, the defense, instead, is full of talent of the 4 and 5 star hotels. A team talented again this year, that starts as the clear favorite of the division.
Weaknesses: The Bulldogs after losing via draft Terry Godwin, Mecole Hardman and Riley Ridley and the expulsion of Jeremiah Holloman after the aggression to his girlfriend, must reinvent themselves in the WR corps, and the freshman George Pickens should become the main target of Jake Fromm. In this offseason the Bulldogs have lost both coordinators, OC Jim Chaney returns to Tennessee to lead the attack of the Vols to become the coordinator the highest-paid in the nation, instead of the DC Mel Tucker makes the leap and becomes the new HC of the Colorado Buffaloes, the 2 coordinator are replaced “in-house” with James Coley (co-OC), and Dan Lanning (LB coach).
The attack: The new OC James Coley will have to be good to give Fromm the new target in the air so as to make credible well as the very good game about racing, led by D andre Swift. The OL and Jake Fromm are the great certainties of this offense. Another point on which you will be working with the new OC is the low percentage of realization in the red-zone in the last few seasons. Certainly will not be easy to keep the average of 37.3 points per game last year.
The defense :The defense remains virtually intact from last season, to report only the loss of Deandre Baker. This should give continuity to the talented defense of Smart. In fact, David Marshall, and Tyler Clark tornanto to Athens for the senior year and will lead a DL with the talentuossisimo NT Jordan Davis, a lot of pure pass-rusher who will battle for a spot starter, with Walter Grant and Nolan Smith are the favorites. The LB will be led by Monty Rice, in the secondary we find the couple Tyson Campbell and Eric Stokes with the veterans Jr Reed and LeCounte as safety.
Prospects: As the college of great tradition ache Georgia is a hotbed of talent for the Nfl. This year there are so many talents and interesting perspective in the draft, the talent, the more crystalline it is very likely that the LT Andrew Thomas (6’5 320 lbs). In the season from freshman, has played very well as a RT, after the partienza of Isaiah Wynn the direction of Boston, Andrew spoatato on the left side, fully showing your immense talent that earned him entry into All-SEC. Last year he canceled nearly every pass-rusher opponent. If continuierà to play and improve this year, it will not be difficult to see it chosen in the top 10 in the next Draft.
Preseason ranking: 8
Head Coach: Dan Mullen (2nd year, 10-3)
Record 2018: 10-3
Match not to be missed : Miami(FL) (24 aug.), Auburn (5 oct.), at LSU (12 oct.), Georgia (2 nov)
Strengths: The main strength of these Gators is the euphoria and the hyle, which has resulted in the return of Dan Mullen in Gainesville. Last season it went above every expectation, and closed with the net win at the Peach Bowl against Michigan. But as said, the same Mullen. “it is easier to go from 4 wins to 10, 10 to 11”. These Gators are at this season very heavy loads, aware of his own strength, and know that the Bulldogs are not so far away.
Weak points: The next step for the Gators is to win the division, but the roster is still not at the level of the Bulldogs, the doubts arise also on the QB Feleipe Franks, is that player disastruoso visa in 2017, or one transformed by the care and Mullen saw last year?? In defence instead of the DC Todd Grantham will have the task is not easy to replace Jachai Polite, Vosean Joseph and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
The attack: Mullen did not forget to fans of the Gators, the days in which he has called games for one of the best offense in the history of college football. The daring calls that have led to wins against LSU, USF, and Michigan demonstrate that Mullen is still one of the best minds offensive on the national scene. The continuous evolution of the Franks and the maturation of the OL will be key. Franks will have the benefit of a WR corps that is not seen by the parties of Gainesville for many years, the RB Lamical Perine has totaled 996 yards of scrimmage as a backup and is ready for a season of monstrous. First, however, the line the offensive will have to replace 4 starters, which have scored a total of 141 departures combined.
The defense: to Retain Todd Grantham was the best shot of this offseason, the renewal of the contract has removed the Bengals are interested in him. With his defense 3-4 Grantham, the constantly changing coverages, formations, players in the blitz not to give points of reference to offense the opponent.
For 2019, the Gators find themselves 7 starter. One of the best tandem CB's in the nation (CJ Henderson, Mark Wilson), LB David Reese II, the 2 EDGE rusher Wing Zuniga and Jonathan Greenard are the key points of this defense. The main challenge for the DC will be the development of depth in the LB corps and in the DL.
Prospects: The talent, the most intriguing of these Gators for the next draft is Wing Zuniga, 6’4 260 lbs. In the last season he played as a DE in defense 3-4, with the departures of Jefferson and Polite will have maybe the chance to play as Edge so as to improving their stats. This year will have eyes on of the best OL in the nation, and will often be doubled. You will need to improve his pass-rush moves and don't just rely on his physicality is extraordinary. Definitely a talent to be 1st round.
Preseason ranking: 23
Head Coach: Barry Odom (4th year 19-19)
Record 2018: 8-5
Match not to be missed: West Virginia (7 sept.), at Georgia (9 nov.), Florida (16 nov.)
With the departure of Drew Lock the direction of Denver, Missouri, replacing him with Kelly Bryant that leaves Clemson to move to Columbia for his Senior year. If the OC Derek Dooley will be good at putting you at ease in his scheme offensive, Missouri can become the “dark horse” of the division.
Weaknesses: The Tigers are under the eye of the storm for a couple of years. After the protests, the racial and the short boycott of 2015, the last season, in January, the NCAA announced that the Tigers were banned from post-season 2019, for the actions of a university tutor who helped a former student athletes to complete the courses. The sanctions also included a 5% reduction of scholarships and restrictions on recruitment. These vicissitudes do not make certain a good advertising program.
The attack: The former starter at Clemson, Kelly Bryant, knows everything on the success of QB's in the first year, and has guided the Tigers until the Playoffs in their first year without Deshaun Watson. Bryant has completed 66% of his passes in four seasons at Clemson, is a runner much more formidable Lock. Bryant will be helped by the presence of Okwuegbunam, slot Wr Johnathon Johnson, and the transfer Jonathan Nance. Larry Rountree III, and Tyler Badie are a pair of Rb that complement each other.
With Bryant and OL stout, could help Dooley to establish a of the offense the most feared in the league.
The defense: Historically, Missouri produces fotissimi pass-rusher, but in 2018, it is ranked only 108th place in the ranking of sack rate and has produced more than 2.5 sacks per game. Instead, the defense has allowed only eur 126.5 yards per game (22nd nationally) and only 3.7 yards per flow.
Jordan Elliott and Akial Byers are one of the best pairs against racing. The body LB and the secondary has not suffered losses, so in 2019 we will see a defense “more experienced”.
Prospects: The talent, the most promising of these Tigers is definitely the YOU Albert Okwuegbunam, 6’5 255 lbs. A player who has scored 17 TD's in 2 years. Physically, Okwuegbunam is the prototype of TE in the NFL, modern, an excellent route-runner who possesses an impressive speed, excellent hands. Still needs to improve as a blocker to become a YOU complete. With another great season, we'll see Okwuegbunam be chosen very high in the next draft.
Preseason ranking: 32
