Deadline announces that the Vertigo Films will produce a tv series from the Monsters, the debut film by Gareth Edwards released in 2010. The series will air on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.

Ronan Bennett will be the showrunner, while Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith will write the screenplay. The series should be distributed in the rest of the world from Netflix or Amazon.

The film, starring Scoot McNairy (Argo, Batman v Superman, Godless) and Whitney Able (Dark) and tells the story of a photojournalist must escort the daughter of his employer through an infected zone in Mexico six years after an alien invasion.

The success of the film has allowed Edwards to direct Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One – A Star Wars Story (2016).

In 2014 he released the sequel, Monsters: Dark Continent, directed by Tom Green.

We do not know at this time if Edwards will be involved in the production of the tv series.
