Marvel announces The Magnificent Ms. Marvel, Ahmed and Jung
It was announced on Entertainment Weekly that Saladin Ahmed (Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Black Bolt) will take the reins of Ms. Marvel after the author and co-creator, G. Willow Wilson, will leave the beloved character. The Magnificent Ms. Marvel, written by Ahmed, with designs by Minkyu Jung, and with the cover of Eduard Petrovich, will make its debut in March 2019.
“I don't think I exaggerate in saying that Miles and Kamala together are kind of the face of the new generation of Marvel. Teenagers whose names and faces reflect the America that surrounds us. Characters that act outside of the usual centre of gravity of Manhattan. They are very different from one another on a bunch of levels, both of which are kind of the contemporary avatar of the heroism of the classic Marvel” declares Ahmed to Marvel.com.
“I think that teenagers, positioning itself between childhood and adulthood, have a unique vision that comes from being part of both worlds. It is a unique way of looking at the world and the stories Marvel have always understood. And Kamala, with her enthusiasm of the geek and his deep sense of responsibility is the embodiment of that.”
About fellow designer, Minkyu Jung, the writer says: “We are still in the very early stages here, the collaboration has just begun. But the stretch of Minkyu is giving shape to this series in a big way. Kamala has been in the hands of some brilliant designers in the last few years, and we are to respect everything that came before, the series will not appear suddenly ‘raw’. But Minkyu and once there turn definitely the graphics part of the series in a new direction, perhaps a slightly darker colour, which will correspond to the story.”
The Magnificent Ms. Marvel, written by Ahmed with the drawings, Minkyu Jung, will make its debut in March 2019.
