Luke Cage: Mike Colter on the cancellation and the future
The actor who played the hero of Marvel Comics for two seasons of Luke Cage, as well as in a handful of episodes of Jessica Jones, and in a season of Defenders, has stated to ComicBook.com before his appearance at Wizard World New Orleans this weekend: “it was bittersweet”... “took me aback”.
While the team had started working on the third season, Colter and others have noticed some changes and when things have stopped. “There were some things, some of the signs that I did not like,” said Colter. “... There was a lot of stalling. There were a lot of things that didn't seem right. Then, the deadlines. It came a deadline and would pass. It would be yet another deadline, and this too would pass”.
“There have been some things that have started to seem a little strange,” says Colter. “So, when it happened, I was like, ‘Eh’. Not been in for a shock. But yes, I am still shocked”.
Fans of Luke Cage intervened on social media to seek to ensure that the series – at least, the character – to continue in the film universe of Marvel. Colter, however, suggests that it is not possible to be sure that there may be something on the horizon:”I don't know if this is something that the fans can realize,” said Colter. “I think that this is a matter of the networks and of the study. I think that will resolve itself, one way or another. There is only need of a bit of time. Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps that is so. But I don't think the fans can do something – as much as the enthusiasm of the fans is very touching and well received and would be appreciated – I don't think that's going to happen, but it is nice to know. I think that, in the end, if it returns, will likely come back due to demand from fans. I don't think that their work is in vain. But it may not happen any time soon as they would like”.
