Linux extends support to the kernel-LTS to 6 years, and Project the Treble thanks!

Published on Nov 06, 2017

It is not a secret that the biggest problem of Android is fragmentation. At the last Google I/O, however, BigG has announced one of the most ambitious projects for the robot green in order to limit this problem: Project Treble. It consists of dividing the operating system into modules, so as to facilitate the update process to OEMS, which will see a significant reduction of time and cost to upgrade any device from Oreo.

Recently, at the Linaro Connect San Francisco in 2017, the member of team Treble Iliyan Malchev has announced a new feature of any system based on Linux, and even Android.

In fact, the support to the Linux kernel, starting from version 4.4, will be granted up to 6 years instead of the previous 2. This news should be especially arm-in-arm with the new solution from Google, because now the security updates and driver updates will be faster than ever, provided that the OEM take of them, guaranteeing their support.
