LEGO: the Universal will produce the new film
Universal Pictures has obtained the rights for the production of the new LEGO movie for the next five years.
Already the previous report indicated the interest of Universal for the acquisition of the property, and now the leaders of the Universal and the LEGO Group have announced their partnership, reports Deadline, which means that the future LEGO movie will be distributed by Universal rather than from the previous production house, Warner Bros.
Dan Lin, who produced all four previous LEGO movie, will remain on as a producer, while Phil Lord and Chris Miller are not currently involved.
It is not clear what future films will be produced by the partnership to Universal / LEGO. However, judging from the previous film in the Warner Bros./LEGO, the future films may rely on the properties of the Universal. After all, LEGO has already made video games, TV special and a set of toys based on franchises such as Jurassic World and E. T.
The first LEGO movie WB has been a success, but then the hits at the box office were not always satisfactory; this could be the basis of a divorce between the two houses.
