Kuo: the iPhone of 2020 will have depth sensors on the rear camera

The reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back to talk of the iPhone planned for 2020. In a recent report, have been confirmed as the new sensors time-of-flight for the rear camera of the smartphone.

In 2020 we expect several important changes to the new models of the iPhone. As reported yesterday on the pages of our site, the iPhone next year will have a new design with different screen sizes, modem 5G and other important news related to the camera. Today, instead, we we wanted to talk to the new 3D sensor technology that will be integrated in the form of the rear camera, as indicated in a recent report of DigiTimes:

The sensors time-of-flight VCSEL are similar to the TrueDepth camera system, in front of the iPhone, which allows the use of the Face ID. By adding this system in depth to the rear camera, we can capture three-dimensional high-quality, plus be able to take advantage of the new features in augmented reality.

Apple will try to replicate the excellent TrueDepth camera system in the back of the smartphone, in order to improve the control of depth in the photographs. At the same time, this will inevitably lead to several improvements in the use of augmented reality, thanks to depth sensors, will be able to map better to the surrounding environment. According to Kuo, this new sensor system will be integrated exclusively on two of the three models planned for 2020. In fact probably the iPhone model XR planned for next year, will not have these sensors, being a end model is slightly lower.

In 2019 will come out instead of the iPhone with a new much less important and will be a simple revision of the current models. We look forward to a camera with three sensors, one normal, one telescopic and a wide angle.
