The main characters of the animated film in stop-motion appear on the back of a dog in the image. The japanese title of the film, Inugashima, also appears in the illustration.

The film is set in Japan and is much reference to japanese culture. The japanese characters speak japanese in the film, but much of the dialogue in japanese is not translated and are not used in the subtitles. Kunichi Nomura has worked on the screenplay and in the film, also plays the antagonist Kobayashi. Other members of the cast japanese include Koyu Rankin in the shoes of the Atari Kobayashi, Akira Takayama in the role of the major Domo, Akira Itō in the role of professor Watanabe, and Yoko Ono in the role of the assistant scientist Yoko Ono and Nijirō Murakami in the role of Hiroshi.
