As previously reported, Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow – Without tomorrow) has left the director of Justice League Dark for a combination of commitments. Liman is working on the tv series and prosthetics Impulse.

Interviewed by Screen Rant, the director said: “I Am still available to do so. I have a controversial approach to the way in which I do things and I don't want them in the same way in which they made others. Impulse is a unique approach to superpowers and fulfilling. Some of the things you can be original, for others it is not. Clichés exist because they are satisfactory to the public. My challenge as a filmmaker has always been to do something original that is still satisfying on a large commercial level. We did it with Impulse, and I'd like to do it in DC if I have the right material.”

Gerard Johnstone has been hired by Warner Bros. to clean up the script for Justice League Dark. The draft in question should be that of Jon Spaihts, the screenwriter for Doctor Strange.

Among the directors vying to replace Liman, were the names of the argentine Damian Szifron (wildest Stories, produced by Pedro Almodovar, Oscar-nominated for Best Foreign Film) and Andy Muschietti, director of IT, adapted from the novel masterpiece by Stephen King.

Scott Rudin will be the producer of Justice League Dark.
