Jiro Taniguchi-censored in France
The French equivalent of our Ministry of education has banned from all (!) the elementary schools in the transalpine The Magic Mountain-Jiro Taniguchi – the history of the formation and dream-like set in 1967 with the protagonist, the eleven-year-old Kenichi forced to spend the summer with grandparents in the mountains – published in Italy by Rizzoli Lizard.
The reason for this censorship is to be attributed to some of the dialogues considered to be child pornography and, in particular, a passage where there is a fisherman in the company of two children to whom the man talks about what a witch can do to those who are close to the cave in which he dwells: “bring it to me! Give me your pippin!” And saying this she throws herself on you! And then... sucks the pippin and says ‘hmm, it's good!’. And then he says ‘the pippin of the kids is always the best!'”.
This was started by a complaint from a mom and has raised the indignation of the parents ' associations and, not only so that the Ministry has had to excuse branded as “oversight” the fact that the book was recommended for an audience aged 14 years and over, and not for the students of primary schools.
What do you think of this little witch-hunt that has been unleashed?
