Japan: robber used a toy gun in honor of Lupin
Police in Tokyo have arrested a man of 40 years on September 10 that they believe to be responsible for several robberies in the minimarket. The suspect allegedly used a toy gun Walther P38 to get cash in three grocery stores and the toy was visible in the footage obtained by the police.
On Tuesday, when the police arrived to make the arrest, took the suspect, named Masafumi Hijikata. Hijikata was in possession of the toy gun Walther P38, but denied having committed the robbery, claiming instead to have brought around the gun as a sign of his passion for Lupin III, according to the Sankei Shimbun.
The first robbery occurred at 4 a.m. on 8th September to a FamilyMart. The thief fled on a bicycle with 98.000 yen (US $ 900) in cash. The clerk told police that the thief had a gun, a Walther P38. It is therefore considered that the thief has entered into a second store, this time in a LAWSON, about five minutes after. After having robbed the shop, LAWSON, the suspect would have robbed a FamilyMart Shinjuku.
Hijikata has been reported to the police before dawn on September 10 after being recognized by one of the clerks that were robbed. The clerk said that Hijikata resembled the suspect.
