iOS 13: How to connect a PlayStation controller or Xbox to your iPhone and iPad

The App Store has many games for our iPhone and iPad, and with the new subscription service Apple Arcade, we have access to more than a hundred of titles on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and even on the Mac. However, the touch controls are not the best to play at, especially for iPhone owners to “normal” and not Plus or Max.

With iOS 13, and iPadOS 13, we can plug in our iPhone and iPad to the controller of the game console, such as the DualShock controller for the PlayStation 4 and the wireless controller in the Xbox. Here's how.

Xbox controllers and PlayStation are also compatible with Macs with macOS Catalina. To connect the controller to your Mac, open System Preferences and open the Bluetooth menu. Follow the previous steps and press to pair and connect the controller.

Once connected, the supported games will automatically detect the controller the PlayStation and Xbox. There is no configuration required. Some games might allow us to remap the buttons according to our preferences, so be sure to check the settings in the app to see if we can customize the associations of the buttons. These settings only apply based on the individual game.
