IFixit disassembles the Apple TV 4K
iFixit has got their hands on the new Apple TV 4K to find out all the secrets of hardware. Here are the details...
In the new Apple TV 4K was found an enhanced processor, but also an unprecedented cooling system never used by Apple. As you can see from the image above, the built-in fan in this model had never been inserted in other Apple TV. The thermal solution adopted by Apple include this fan combined with a heat sink and EMI shielding.
Inside we find a chip Broadcom Thunderbolt and the Thunderbolt chip Gigabit Etnerhet, in addition to 3 GB of RAM Hynix, a controller customized to the memory, a Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth of the wall, the flash memory by Toshiba and a converter Megachips FisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.0.
The level of repairability is an 8 out of 10, a very high rating, which confirms the ease of replacing the various pieces of the Apple TV. Among the negative aspects from the point of view of repairability are reported to the modular power supply and the Torx screws used on the inside and outside. The various components are soldered to the logic board.
