HTC and Motorola are expressed in relation to the planned obsolescence
HTC and Motorola have expressed about the practice of the planned ageing of the smartphone-dated, the matter was discussed thoroughly in the last few days as a result of the statements made by Apple on the performance of the models, iPhone 6s, iPhone IF and iPhone 7. The company from Cupertino had motivated the introduction of the system of throttling (i.e. limiting performance) by upgrading to iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2.0, in order to limit the energy requirements once the lithium-ion batteries are no longer able to “provide the peak current in the presence of low temperatures, when they have a low charge or age over time”. This practice had raised doubts among users in fear that Apple intends to deal with the planned obsolescence by encouraging people to switch to a new model. Hence, the decision by some american consumers to activate the first class action.
For this reason, HTC and Motorola have both stated to The Verge that such a practice is not applied in their smartphones: “it is Not a thing that we do,” admitted a spokesman for HTC. “We do not limit the performance of the CPU according to battery older,” he instead said Motorola.
