Google relaunches on renewable energy: 18 agreements and over $ 2 billion in infrastructure
Google continues to intensify efforts to acquire from renewable sources, the energy necessary for the functioning of its wide network of offices and datacenter. The home of Mountain View has achieved for the second consecutive year, the target of 100% renewable energy, but they rest on their laurels and announces 18 new agreements to purchase energy from a solar source and wind: the operation is defined by the CEO, Sundar Pichai-the largest purchase of renewable energy ever done.
The new arrangements will provide more than 1,600 megawatts (MW) of clean energy that, when added to that from the previous (now become 52 in all), will switch the total to around 5,500 megawatts (MW) - equivalent to the capacity of a million solar panels. An operation with a large radius which provides for investment in the United States, Chile and Europe. More specifically:
Related to the new agreements are the construction of infrastructure for an estimated value of more than $ 2 billion. The CEO stresses that until now the purchase of clean energy made by Google in the United States have been largely based on wind power (over 80% of the total in the last ten years), but, thanks to the reduction of the costs of the production based on solar energy has become more and more convenient. In Chile, Google will continue to use a hybrid technology solar/wind energy. The Battery on the Phone less than 150?
