Google Chrome 73 will support the media keys found on many models of keyboards (both devices are either integrated, in the case of laptops), many PC. The operating systems affected will be all those on the desktop, even if the support for Linux will come in a second time (there are Windows, Chrome OS, and macOS).

There will then be more in need of external utilities to do actions such as start/pause/stop the playback of videos from YouTube or songs from Spotify, move on to the next item of a playlist or return to the previous, and go forward/fast backward to a precise point of the content in reproduction.

Chrome, notes ZDNet, will be the first browser to natively support the media keys. The function will be implemented in such a way that the control will take place even if the browser is in the background, not only when it is in the foreground. The browser update will also include support to the API Media Session, that allow developers to manage the playback of the multimedia content to the browser and customize the behavior of the multimedia keys. The reaffirmation of a company that seeks a balance between top-performance and competitive price?
