Ghostbusters 3: the director confirms the new cast
Ignoring the remake of Ghostbusters 2016, Paul Feig with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, the upcoming sequel Reitman is set in the same universe of the films of director Ivan Reitman. The third movie in the franchise will follow a team of young heroes from the inclinations to the paranormal, even if no specific details regarding the plot is still leaked.
But Jason Reitman has officially confirmed who is part of the cast: Reitman has indicated that the star of Stranger Things Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, The Leftovers will be in the film, as well as McKenna Grace, who played the younger version of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. Even if he has not offered details on their roles, has written: “Meet the family”. This suggests that will be part of the family, Ghostbusters, or that the characters are bound to one another in the film.

After having found success with Stranger Things, Wolfhard appeared on the big screen with IT's 2017, and will return in the sequel this fall. In the meantime, Captain Marvel, Grace is the main character in the next Annabelle Comes Home, and Coon has recently played the evil Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War.
Judging from this, the hypothesis most obvious one is that the new film will see Coon interpret the mother of Wolfhard and Grace. However, the question is what free Coon might have with the Ghostbuster original. Assuming that it is one of the daughters of an original member, the guys could be the grandchildren of Peter Venkman (therefore will return to Bill Murray); but, on the other hand, a relationship with Egon Spengler it would be a touching remembrance of the late Harold Ramis.
