Gartner confirmation: Huawei is the second largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world, Apple at the third place
Gartner has today published the results of his latest research on the smartphone market relative to Q2 2018. The data confirm that Huawei has surpassed Apple to take the second place in the global ranking of smartphone manufacturers.
Gartner says that in total were sold 374 million units in Q2 2018, that is, 2% more than in Q2 2017. Speaking of the individual manufacturers, Samsung has won back the first place, with 72.3 million devices sold during the quarter, with 19.3% of market share. Both figures are, however, lower compared to last year. Huawei, however, continues its advance, with 49.8 million units sold, with 13.3% of the market share. A nice leap forward compared to Q2 2017 (35.9 million units sold and a market share of 9.8%).
Go to Apple, which gets the bronze medal. The company from Cupertino has sold 44.7 million units, equal to 11.9% of the market share. The number of devices is increased compared to last year (44.3 million), but the market share decreased by 0.2 percentage points.
Anshul Gupta, a researcher at Gartner, said in a statement that “Huawei continues to introduce innovative features in its smartphones, while demand for the iPhone X “has started to slow down before” compared to the previous models.
The success of Huawei is not too surprising, but we must always consider the number of smartphones that the company presents each year, covering virtually almost all price ranges. Apple instead focuses on devices high end, and should increase sales in the future months with the launch of three new iPhone expected for September.
