Fleabag will return with a second season in 2019
Fleabag, the dark comedy by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, BAFTA winner, will return to surprise in 2019 with a second season on BBC Three, and Amazon (in Italy is available to Amazon Prime Video).
This was announced by the same creator of the International Festival of Television in Edinburgh, where he stated: “The second season will be an all new adventure, and am more than excited to be back working on it”. He added: “I wondered if Fleabag had something to say and honestly it was silent for a moment from that moment.”
“The first season of Fleabag has introduced the public to the brilliant and rebellious voice of Phoebe Waller-Bridge,” says Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy, Drama and VR, Amazon Studios. “Is one of hollywood's best and most dynamic of the tv at the time and we are excited to offer a new season of the brilliant and hilarious Fleabag to our customers.”
The comedy, full of surprises along its six episodes, has received many critical praise, and is an adaptation of the eponymous one-woman theater show she has written and interpreted, which won an Edinburgh Fringe First Award, a Critics’ Circle and an Off-West End for a theater work, more promising, and a recognition on the part of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. He tells of london life of the protagonist of the title, as she faces the grief of her best friend, and who often speaks directly into the machine to spectators.
In the first season appear in the cast include Brett Gelman (American Dad!, Twin Peaks), Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, The Night Manager), Bill Paterson (The Rebel, Outlander), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Hugh Skinner (Harlots, Poldark), Jamie Demetriou (london Paddington 2, People Time), Jenny Rainford (The Favourite, The Smoke), and Sian Clifford (Fry-Up, Paddy). Produced by Two Brothers Pictures, Fleabag was directed by Harry Bradbeer (Killing Eve, Dickensian), and as executive producers had Harry Williams and Jack Williams (Rellik, The Missing) of the Two Brothers Pictures, Lydia Hampson (The Art of Foley), and Waller-Bridge, and was distributed by all3media International.
Waller-Bridge will be soon in a biopic of the author of Winnie the Pooh and Star Wars movie about Han solo. In addition, he created and performed the comedy Crashing (available in the uk on Netflix) and has written the next series, thriller, BBC America Killing Eve, starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, who is scheduled to begin shooting this week in Europe for a airing in 2018.
