"Fly on your way like an eagle, fly as high as the sun [...] Fly and touch the sun," sin, then to collapse down, exactly like that Icarus praised in the Greek myths, and also sung by the countrymen of Dylan Dog. Disasters of large magnitude are common to the last books of the regular series of the investigator of the nightmare: this time is also struggling with a girl being pursued by a fate, ironically, to survive to his loved ones and all those around them.

The survivor is the third episode of the cycle of Meteora), written by a rock-Barbara Baraldi. In just a few months away from his last job for Dylan Dog, “you'll Lose your head“, Baraldi changes slightly and genre of music to which to draw, moving away from the electro-rock of Primal Scream to the classic and heavy rock of AC/DC and Iron Maiden, already present in many books of the regular series as the soundtrack of the adventures of the tenant of Craven Road.

But not by bread alone musical lives, the issue number 389: scattered among the pages, we find several references to nerd to the most popular television series, The Big Bang Theory, Star Trek, Griffin, and others, as a small easter egg. It is your task to find them all.The narration swings between the tracks of a subway in the middle of the routes of the aircraft at supersonic speed. You do not even have the time to somatizzare and investigate a crime scene that already appears in another. Just like a classic horror film, “final girl” Sally and Dylan Dog remain unharmed until the end of the story, witnessing (or almost) to the death of all the supporting characters and the extras that surround them. Barbara Baraldi has handled a horror from the narrative path discounted reconstructing it as an artist who uses waste material to make us works of art, piazzandoci in the midst of a heavy rain of space debris, unnecessary, but useful to the continuity of the cycle of Meteora.

A phantom killer, with the face of Eddie, the character who lives and personifies the music of Iron Maiden, welcomes the reader to the opening of the register, which begins to give name and surname to what happens in the last page number 388, “Exercise number 6“. Always to the group of Dickinson & associates connect to other parts of the story, as the title of the horror film, of which Sally is the protagonist (Fear of the dark). The pair of designers Massaglia – Santaniello returns to the regular series of Dylan, after “The calligraphy of pain”, to accompany and enrich the work of Luigi Piccatto, touching on the salient points of the cycle of Meteora.

Finally you start giving a “face”, a why and a link to the mysterious character that appears in the last pages of “in The service of chaos“, the album where is the first appearance of John's Ghost. You are going to define the contours of the story and give it more weight and thickness to the new enemy of Dylan Dog, which, apparently, takes orders from a strange character reminiscent of a mix between Queen Elizabeth and a mega-squid. The break is getting closer, as you can progressively see from the logo that sits on the cover of Gigi Cavenago, this time in homage to the film eastwoodiano The man in the viewfinder.
