Denis Villeneuve does not direct a 007 but confirms the Dunes!
As previously reported, Daniel Craig, interpreter of James Bond, wants to Denis Villeneuve, the director of the upcoming film of the saga. Villeneuve-directed thriller Prisoners, Enemy and Killer, and the science-fiction Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049. The name of Villeneuve was also demonstrated for the remake of Dune, and for a film about Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie.
Interviewed by The Playlist, the director said: “Daniel Craig is an actor that inspires me a lot and I have had some contact, but, at the moment, I'm doing the Dunes. It would be a dream to have the privilege of working with him. I would like to work with Daniel and it would be great to do a Bond film but it is a matter of timing.”
The academy award winning scriptwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Ali, Munich, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has been hired by Legendary Entertainment to write the reboot of the Dunes.
As previously announced, the Legendary has acquired the rights to the film and television of the Dunes, the iconic science-fiction novel by Frank Herbert, published in 1965, and was the progenitor of a series of six novels.
The Filmmakers would have in pipeline projects for cinema and tv-based Dune that should be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert as executive producers.
The novel has already been translated in the 1984 film, directed by David Lynch, with Kyle MacLachlan, Sting and Patrick Stewart. In 2000, the tv miniseries Dune the fate of the universe, with Giancarlo Giannini and William Hurt, which has had a sequel in 2002, children of Dune with James McAvoy.
Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, whose family accepts control of a desert-like planet Arrakis, source of the precious Spice melange. Control of Arrakis is contested by the other noble families. When Paul and his family are betrayed, the protagonist will lead a rebellion to regain control of Arrakis.
The new James Bond film will be written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, already writers of Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre, and should be taken from The dreams don't kill, written by Raymond Benson and published in 1999. The villain will be the blind Pierre Rodiac.
