Crisis on Infinite Earths: the new trailer shows a famous death
A classic image of the comic appears in the latest teaser trailer of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” of The CW, which reveals the death of Superman, the extension of something seen in a previous teaser: the torn cloak of Superman blowing in the wind, familiar to kids of the ’90s.
The scene – the protagonist of which is the Lois Lane of Elizabeth Tulloch in mourning for the loss of the love of his life – is a direct reference to Superman #75, “The death of Superman”, Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding. That number was one of the comics most sold of all time, and still remains a cultural reference point. The story of the fury of Doomsday through Metropolis and the sacrifice of Superman has been told multiple times, including in two animated films (Superman: Doomsday and death of Superman) and a movie live-action films (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).
This Crisis is incumbent on the Arrowverse years and will start on Sunday, December 8 on Supergirl, then move on to Batwoman Monday and The Flash on Tuesday. That will be the cliffhanger of the mid season, while the show will go on break for the holidays to return on the 14th of January to finish the event with Arrow and DC''s Legends of Tomorrow.
