When Diamond Comic Distributors has announced the total blockade of distribution of comics, and merchandise all across North America, the market as a whole relative to the comics, and seemed destined to an inevitable halt, waiting, of course, the end of the health emergency, which unfortunately is hitting hard, even the United States.
In spite of this, some publishers have decided not to cancel the outputs from the month of April, those relying on the release in digital, who distribute the paper via alternative channels, trying to maintain a semblance of normality and regularity.
The most important actor in this context, it is certainly DC Comics has officially declared, through the Director of Marketing Adam Phillips, who will distribute his new releases only in digital.
For accuracy, assures the release of the following numbers:
The books mentioned above, initially planned for the 1st of the month, have been postponed to the 29th of April and will be distributed on comiXology and Kindle.
Phillips has also pointed out that the market for paper and digital are separate and address two types of public is very different between them, adding that in the future (that is, when the alarm Covid-19 will be returned) may re-evaluate the entire structure of the distrubution of the paper if this will be again in serious difficulties.
Marvel, instead, decided to address the serious crisis of the comics, guaranteeing them a considerable increase of discounts for all its products, in order to offer practical help to retailers with a significant increase of the profit margin.
With regard to the distribution, initially the company had simply declared to have a “crisis plan”, today however announced that, for the moment will not make available any new release, including those provided in digital for the 1st of April.
BOOM! Studios, in contrast, has opted for the distribution of the paper through channels alternative to Diamond, but with significant differences compared to the usual. The company has decided to stop the printing of the individual numbers (which will not be released even in digital) and only distribute the graphic novel and the volumes that collect multiple chapters of a given series, both categories in both physical and digital.
Other publishers such as IDW Publishing and Dynamite Entertainment have just confirmed to comply with the blockade imposed by Diamond, so you can start afresh along with all the other publishers as soon as possible.
