Surely many of you know Exploring the human body / We are made so, the television series of the French animated drawings of 1987 for educational purposes and dedicated to the functioning of the human body, created by Albert Barillé, and several times repeated on TV and in the newspaper.

Often, when I looked at it I wondered how it would have been a version in japanese sauce of this cartoon, which, let's face it, just accept that the French style all over the place.

Well, after many years, finally my curiosity has been satisfied, thanks to Cells at Work! Works in the Body, the manga series, Akane Shimizu, with the scientific consultancy of Tomoyuki Arada, proposed by Edizioni Star Comics.

The series, as you may have guessed, deals with the functioning of the human body, presenting, in every chapter of the manga, a different phenomenon that affects our body, positive or negative: for example, in the first volume you will have to deal with the threat of pneumococci, the allergy to the terrible pollens of sugi, influence, and abrasion.

The manga, while having as the main protagonists, or rather most frequently, a red blood cell, a portrait with the appearance of the female, and a white blood cell, a portrait with likeness of men, is, in reality, work in a global, as indeed it is in reality, all give their contribution so that the machine functions at its best. And in fact, no character has a proper name but is always called as the white blood cell, red blood cell, etc

The characterization of the characters is delightful: platelets, smaller cells of the other is present in the blood and used to repair wounds, are drawn as girls and children with a hat with a visor and t-shirt of some larger extent; T killer lymphocytes are represented as a special team of police, formed by to be crazy excited that exterminate without pity the threats of the human body; white blood cells, instead, are characterized as forces of police, while the red blood cells are practically of the couriers of the human body, they have two uniforms, one darker for the venous blood and a clear one for the arterial blood.

Despite being a manga with a base absolutely scientific, the component of comedy is ever-present in the stories (for example, the sign of the platelets is worse than expected, we apologize for the inconvenience” to report the road closed). However, in the margin of the vignettes are often present tables in which are explained the tasks and the characteristics of these protagonists of the life and safety of our body. As a special insert only an information card, unfortunately to a single page, between the third chapter and the fourth, dedicated in blood vessels and lymphatic vessels.

No shortage of battle scenes, which are obviously the more violent of the French counterpart...

The component of comedy is predominant also on the artistic, with wide use of the deformed to emphasize the comedy. Of course, even the environments, which represent the inside of our body, they leave space to the imagination and the rework is very funny: for example, the lungs are represented by huge turbines, arteries as large galleries with to the sides the various condomìni,... environments give however often the step to the representations of the characters in the foreground. The stroke is always clean and well cared for.
